Caricaturist helps man to pull off surprise (exclusive)

A man popped the question via a caricatur.

Dave, 28, took his girlfriend, Lexi, 27, on a date to Florida State Fair on Sunday 16 February. Lexi thought they were just there to enjoy the various foods, rides and games, but in reality Dave had planned an artistic proposal.

The couple – who met in 2014 when they both worked in Surf Style in Clearwater, Florida – sat down next to each other and smiled for artist Damion Dunnthat would create a caricatur portrait of them. In a video with more than 450,000 views shared by Lexi via TikTok on February 18, Dunn hand over their drawing. In the piece, Dave is down on a knee suggesting for Lexi with a gigantic diamond ring.

“When the artist showed the drawing, I thought it was so cute but I was also as confused as” we are not engaged yet, “says Lexi to People.” I saw my best friend and her husband record and I thought to myself, “is what I think it will happen right now?” ”

Shortly after Lexi saw the artwork, Dave recreated the scene by dropping on one knee and pulling out a red rose box from the pocket. When he asked her to marry him, Lexi immediately began crying and nodded her head.

“When he got down on one knee, it finally clicked me to” Omg this happens! “” Says Lexi.

After Dave slid the diamond ring on Lexis finger, hugged the duo and kissed each other.

Dave had planned the surprise for about a month.

“He announced me about a month before the fair started and asked if I would be down to help him suggest for his girlfriend,” Dunn explained on Instagram. “Not only was I honored. I also felt excited and a little nervous about being part of his suggestion. I wanted to (to) give them something nice as well as something that is worth his confidence in me.”

Dunn included nods to the couple’s relationship and previous caricatures in their new artwork, such as the date for their first date – September 15, 2017 – next to the day of their commitment written in heart trams that hang from the top of the piece.

“I had a feeling that it came soon because the day before my best friend, Aryn, insisted that we got our nails made and helped to guide me which color I would choose, but I didn’t think it would happen at the fair as it happened,” says Lexi.

“He was safe to be funny! We have received a drawing from him since 2022 and it is his humor that makes us continue to come back to him,” says Lexi. “I thought it also added the proposal because it fits our relationship so perfectly.”
