Since the season finale aired on October 23, fans have been eager to know if Tony and Ziva will return to screens for a second season. While Paramount+ hasn’t confirmed whether or not there will be a season 2, the showrunner and cast have teased that there could be more in the works.

As of the Season 1 finale in October, NCIS: Tony & Ziva has not been renewed for a second season.
In the final episode, Tony and Ziva work together to find their daughter Tali after she is kidnapped by villain and Interpol agent Jonah Markham (Ovenden). Meanwhile, the on-again, off-again couple also have to prove they are being terrorized by the same Interpol agent.
Thankfully for the 12-year-old, her parents come to her rescue and manage to turn some of Jonah’s agents against him to save Tali after a shootout. The family of three is reunited and Tony and Ziva decide to give their relationship another chance.
Showrunner John McNamara revealed that they had an alternate ending in place that left Tony and Ziva’s romance up in the air, but he ultimately decided to prioritize their love story.
“Well, to me it was always a love story,” he shared Deadline after the final on October 23. “All the thriller components would put them together. I was hoping at the end of the season, after 20 years, let’s give them a chance.”
He added that the second “slightly different ending” was more of a “cliffhanger”, but he felt fans “would have been really bummed” to wait for a potential second season to find out where Tony and Ziva stand.

Both Weatherly and de Pablo have expressed interest in a second season while sharing how much they loved working together again.
“I think we would be lucky to play these characters because — look, I’ll say this: Season 1 was like a dream. It was so much fun to go back and revisit these characters. We don’t know where this is going,” de Pablo told TV Insider in September 2025.
The actress explained that both she and Weatherly “felt we owed it to the fans” to reunite for a spinoff and “it came together beautifully.”
“We’re just grateful that we got a chance to do it, and the rest is the rest. If we got a chance to do it again, we’d be happy,” she continued.
Meanwhile, Weatherly added that his time on the spinoff reminded him of the early seasons of NCIS when he and his teammates would tackle grizzly points and ask each other, “‘How many more seasons do you have? How many more seasons do you have?’ ”
“I have to say, season 1 of T&Z It was very magical,” de Pablo continued. “And Michael and I looked at each other many times, and I would have to pinch myself. I have to say ‘I can’t believe we’re doing this. I can’t believe we’re playing these characters, and I can’t believe I get to play with you.’ And I was happy every time I showed up for work.”
As for the potential future of their characters, de Pablo explained that she would love to focus more on her on-screen daughter, Tali.

Even if NCIS: Tony & Ziva hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season, McNamara is hopeful he’ll get to continue telling Tony and Ziva’s stories.
“I’m not Jewish, but I’m married to a Jewish woman, and my son is Jewish,” he explained Deadline. “There’s a great Jewish word, kennehora. Don’t curse the future… So I, obviously, I think about it, but I’m really, really, really, intensely superstitious about these things.”
While trying to remain optimistic, McNamara teased that he has a “feel” for how to start Season 2 and what it might look like.
“I took a little bit for Michael and Cote,” he said. “We had dinner where I kind of sketched out really big ideas. But I really, really, really — it’s so stupid, because I’m an atheist, my only spiritual belief is, don’t count your chickens.”
However, if the spinoff is renewed for a second season, McNamara revealed that they may use some footage from the alternate season 1 that they didn’t use.
