“He was a lovely man, and I remember him delighted because he helped me get a job when I came out of college,” she says about the late actor who helped her get interviews with the leaders of NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council, Environmental Defense Fundand Science in public interest. “He was so hot and helpful at that time in my life.”

She also explains how the two friends had a running bit with each other, “a kind of buddy movie friendship built on pranks and mutual respect.”

A proof of their easy friendship: Redford gave Famous Newman a buckle, engine -free Porsche as a joke for his birthday one year. Newman refunded the benefit by having the car crushed and sent back to its co -actor, as Nell says is “one of the best stories” about their Pranks.

Nell is also reminiscent of how Redford always invited Newman or his family to Sundance, Utah. “Every time I talked to him on the phone,” come out and skiing.
