A popular Rhode Island TV meteorologist, Kelly Bates, has been released from his position for a second time.
On Thursday, September 11, Bates published one Facebook video Announcement that the station she works for, ABC6, has been bought out.
She revealed that ABC6 was purchased by the station that she previously worked at. “And what the parent company has decided that I am a redundancy and needed to go,” she said in the video.
“So, no tears this time. I know what to expect with this company,” Bates said. “But if someone is looking for an effective communicator, a person who can make fantastic homemade bracelets and someone who is dedicated and loyal and hard working, please contact me, because I can use a job.”
She also imprisoned a vulnerable caption and wrote, “Good grief! It happened again !! A number of us ABC6 people are now looking for work. If a CV crosses your desk from someone on ABC6, do yourself a favor and hire them.”
“They are the finest people I have worked with,” she continued. “They are resourceful about dimensions and dedicated to excellence. They are magical manufacturers that can get so much to happen to so little. It was an honor to work with them. It was a gift and a blessing to be part of the team.”
Throughout his career, Bates has received Emmy nominations. She was introduced in Rhode Island Monthly Hall of Fame in July 2022 and has been named best female meteorologist on Rhode Island by the readers of Rhode Island each month.
Bates did not reveal the name of where she had previously worked. But she left her NBC10 job in September 2021 after working for the station for 17 years. (NBC10 is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.) At that time she said she “could not continue” with the conditions offered, per Boston Globe.
“Leaving this job was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made,” she said at that time. “I loved my job at NBC 10 and it makes me deeply sorry to leave it after 17 years.”
She then joined ABC6 in June 2022.
