A “large part of asphalt” was “unloaded” from a vehicle driving on South Durango Drive and entered the northbound lanes and met the child, a 6-year-old boy, who was inside a Honda pilot 2017, police say. The vehicle was driven by a 34-year-old woman.
The boy was sitting in the back seat, per CLASS. Another passenger, a 4-year-old boy, was undamaged.
The police identified the driver as Makayla Engstrum, who was undamaged and remained at the scene. She was not impaired at the accident.
Police said the 6-year-old was taken to the University Medical Center in southern Nevada with critical injuries after emergency recipients arrived.
