30 officers accused after allegedly facilitated “gladiator fight” among minors

Thirty detention agents who worked in a Juvenile Hall in California have been charged with several charges after prosecutors claimed that they facilitated “gladiator struggle” between minors, according to the authorities.

California’s national lawyer Rob Bonta shared in a press release On Monday, March 3, that his office had sealed an accusation of a large jury against 30 officers working in Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, California, on allegations of children’s danger and abuse, conspiracy and battery.

The officials – of which many were women – are said to be “allowed” and even “encouraged” about “69 fights” to occur between over 140 young people between 12 and 18 years in Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles County from 1 July 2023, until December 31, 2023, according to the prosecution.

“Officials in Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall have an obligation to ensure the security and well -being of them under their care,” Bonta said in a statement, according to the publication. “Instead, the officers today accused the opposite-monitored” Gladiator Fights “when they should have intervened.”

Investigators at California’s Justice Department began to investigate the incidents after video of one of these fights leaked in January 2024, says the Riksdag’s office.

The prosecution claimed that the officers “exploited” their position of power and abandoned their tasks to “protect them in their care” by keeping the fights. It also noted that “aggravating factors”, including the officers’ “trust in trust or trust” with the youth and the “vulnerability of youth” helped “enable” the officers to “commit the crime.”

According to the court documents “” Gladiator Fights “” “threatened” children’s health and safety, as it created “conditions that are likely to cause great bodily harm and death” and injury. The fighting also resulted in “Physical damage to the youth involved.”

“The prosecution and submission of criminal charges – is an important step towards keeping these officers responsible and dealing with deficiencies in Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall,” added Bonta in his statement. “Let today’s accusations be a warning for anyone who abuses their power: California’s Justice Department is watching, and we will keep you responsible.”

Of the 30 officers, 22 were arranged at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, the rest will be arranged on April 18, 2025, according to the publication.

The national lawyer’s office said apart from the prosecution that they are working “to deal with systemic deficiencies” in the Los Angeles County Juvenile Halls – including Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall – to “protect the health, safety and well -being of the youth during their care.”

This included establishing “additional monitoring” of the young facilities and providing “reinforced protection” for minors there as part of a changed court assessment to “address illegal and uncertain conditions.”
