3 teenagers killed the woman by throwing big stone by the car. Now they are all convicted

A Colorado man was convicted of first degree murder-extremity indifference in the death of 20-year-old Alexa Bartell, who died after a stone crashed through her car window while driving.

A jury on Friday, April 25 also found Joseph Koenig, 20, guilty of several bills, including criminal attempts to commit first degree, abuse in the second degree and criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree for other rock throwing attacks.

“Despite a conviction of murder in the first degree – extreme indifference – was none of this to ever happen,” said Jefferson County district lawyer Alexis King after the verdict, the Denver Gazette reported.

“It’s hard to be happy or feel satisfied that justice was served today,” said Alexa’s mother, Kelly Bartell, according to Gazette. “It doesn’t fill what amazing life was lost. And three others were lost and affected as well.”

Koenig’s friends Zachary Kwak and Nichola’s “Mitch” Karol-Chik invoked guilty last year for their part in the attack, per CBS news.

The three friends threw stones at passed cars at about 10:45 on April 19, 2023, when one of the cliffs – a large nine landscape architecture – crushed through Bartell’s driver’s page window. At that time, Bartell was on the phone with a friend and drove north in the block 10600 in Indiana Street in Denver.

When police and emergency doctors arrived at the scene, they found Bartell with a large main year and no pulse.

The mountain was found nearby with traces of blood on it, per CBS news.

Her car was “the last of a series of vehicles struck by large landscape architectures in a spree that began shortly after 22:00 that evening at 100th and Simms in Westminster,” according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office press release.

“(Koenig) was excited,” witnessed Karol-Chik, who invoked guilty of murder at second degrees and tried the first degree murder, about Koenig’s reaction after he hit Bartell’s car, according to Gazette. “He continued to turn from his seat to look at me and look at Zach in the back seat. He would just look at us with his big smile on his face.”

After the attack, Koenig, Kwak and Karol-Chick, who were 18 at that time, returned to take pictures of the crime scene “as a memorial”, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.

The following day they met to coordinate their stories and become “Blood Brothers”, who promised not to mention the attack to anyone, according to NBC News.

During the trial, Koenig claimed that it was Kwak who threw the deadly mountain.

Koing’s judgment is scheduled for June 3 9NEWS. He is facing life in prison for the first degree of the murder law and can be judged for the other charges to serve at the same time, Denver Gazette Reports. Kwak could get 20 to 32 years and Karol-Chik 35 to 72 years.
