3 people saved from Lake Michigan after the flight crashed in water

Three people have been rescued after the plane as they were in Lake Michigan, according to reports.

About 12:35 local time on Thursday, September 11, a Cirrus SR22 aircraft crashed into the lake near Racine, Wis., About 20 minutes after gaining momentum from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport against Michigan, TMJ4 news and WMTV 15 news reported.

A spokesman for the airport said that the plane “encountered a problem in flight” before crashing in the water per TMJ4 news.

“All three (passengers) were in the water, not sure if they were hanging on the aircraft, but all three were in the water,” LT Joe Neff told the American Coast Guard to the outlet.

The US Coast Guard was announced about the incident through air traffic control around 12:45 local time and inserted a 45-foot response boat and a Jayhawk helicopter crew in their rescue, per NBC Chicago.

The three male passengers, who each wore life jackets, were undamaged after waiting in the water for 40 minutes to be saved, according to TMJ4 News.

“We are very lucky that not only they, all three were safe in the air accident, but then could have life jackets to float there in the water for about 40 minutes before we arrived on stage to pick them up,” LT Neff told the outlet.

The US Coast Guard reported that the aircraft was completely submerged in the lake after the crash Per NBC Chicago. The men were taken to the Milwaukee Coast Guard station after their rescue.

The reason for the crash is not yet known, but the Coast Guard is investigating the incident according to reports.

“It’s a fantastic story for all of us. You know, all three people are covered and then the big thing we like to point out: they had all the jackets,” said Coast Guard LT Joe Neff Per NBC Chicago. “Life jackets save lives.”
