3 Mass. High Schoolers die, another in critical condition after car accident: reports

Three Massachusetts High School Seniors have died and a fourth was left in critical condition after a car accident in Florida while they were in the spring.

Jimmy Mcintosh and Hannah Wasserman from Concord-Carlisle High School were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Monday 21 April at US Highway 98 in Walton County, as reporting CBS news.

Maisey O’Donnell and a fourth student, which remains anonymous, were transported to the Bay Medical Center in Panama City. O’Donnell later died at the hospital, while the fourth student is described as in critical condition.

Florida Highway Patrol told CBS News that the crash occurred around 21:30 when the car, driven by Mcintosh, crashed into a tractor trailer. The outlet reported that “SUV crossed the median and the other side of the highway before he ended up in the forest.”

There were no other injured in the accident.

An investigation into the tragedy is still ongoing. Mcintosh was said to wear the seat belt, but it is unclear if the three passengers were also, the outlet reported.

In a post Facebook From the evening of April 21, Walton County Sheriff’s Office warned the public about a crash on the highway, which they said would be “closed for a long time.”

The office issued an update at 5 o’clock as Highway 98 had reopened. It is unclear if the post was related to this accident.

Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter talked about the crash in a statement obtained by CBS News.

“We are very appreciative for the outflow of love during what is completely heartbreaking. We also appreciate the desire to feel purposeful and not helpless. At this time it is most appropriate that no action is taken to honor the students without the full consent and appropriate support for so many young people who have unmatched loss.”

She continued: “We are all destroyed in addition to what we can understand today. I know that the difficult days will be the ones we meet together.”

Sorgrådaters will be made available at the high school for students on Wednesday, April 23 and again on Monday April 28, when the school resumes after the spring trip.

WCVB Reported that O’Donnell was a state diver, she was described by her coach Joe Chirico as “humble by a friendly heart.”

“The little kids looked up to her; the other divers looked up to her. It is a tragedy that someone at the top of their game, which went to the best academic school, one of the best divers in the country, was cut so short,” he said.

O’Donnell had planned to attend Williams College after graduation, the outlet reported.

A Gofundme was organized to help Wasserman’s family collect funds to “cover the unexpected burial and memory costs.”
