19 people reportedly saved after being caught in their vehicles under a heavy snowstorm at Mount Hotham in the Victorian Alps, Australia.
On Sunday, June 7, rescue services conducted a search and rescue operation to recover those that were stranded near Hotham Heights after “more than 50 cm of snowfall in the area”, Victoria State announced the rescue service (SES) in a press release on Facebook on Sunday June 8th.
All 19 people caught in their vehicles at Mount Hotham have now been rescued, ABC News Australia reported. While 13 were rescued on Sunday, another six were carried out on Monday, June 9th. No one remains trapped in the area, The custodian reported, with reference to SE and police.
The custodian and 9 News Reported that 13 motorists and two hikers were rescued on Sunday after being caught in the snow near Mount Hotham last night. They got stuck around 10:50 and travel along the Blue Rag Range Track near Dargo High Plains Road.

Half a dozen of the captures were forced to spend a second night in their vehicles, reported ABC News Australia, with reference to SES Regional Duty Officer James Boller.
“The rescue operation has actually been quite treacherous,” Boller told the outlet. The conditions up on the mountain have been very, very difficult to handle. ”
There has been 62 cm snowfall in the region over the past week, with temperatures that fall to -4.3-degree Celsius (24.2 degrees Farenheit), ABC News Australia reported.

Country Fire Association, Wangarata Ski Club and Hotham Alpine Resort have helped seen in their rescue efforts, according to The Guardian.
“We were very surprised by the number of vehicles we encountered yesterday …” said SES unit checks Graham Gales, according to Britain’s outlet. “The experience of our drivers entering Dargo High Plains Road yesterday was even difficult, and these are people who basically work in the snow all year round.”
On June 6, Alpine Shire Council published a weather warning on FacebookWith the task that travelers should “avoid Dargo High Plains Road during King’s Birthday Long Weekend” due to “snow and high wind” in (Victorian) Alps.
“If you are on your way out on the roads, please drive to the terms, pay attention to signs and do not drive on roads with closing messages on site,” read the post.
