11 people injured, suspects in custody after Michigan Walmart knitting: Police

Several people were injured during a knife attack at a Michigan Walmart.

At least 11 people are in the hospital after the incident took place in the store in Traverse City on Saturday, July 26, said Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office (GTO) in a statement Shared on social media.

The suspect, who has only been identified by the police as a 42-year-old man, was taken in custody not long after the knitting began. The authorities said that a deputy “was on stage within minutes.”

According to GTO, the alleged perpetrator used “a folding knife” to attack the many victims. Authorities believe he “acted alone.”

“There is no information indicating that there were additional suspects,” Sheriff Michael Shea said at a news conference, Per CNN. “It seems that these were random acts.”

All victims are treated at the Munson Medical Center. Individuals close or within the Walmart store “helped with the perception and treatment of the victims”, according to the police.

Munson Healthcare said in a Facebook post That five of the victims are in severe condition, and the other six are in critical condition. Shea said during the press conference that six of the victims are male and five are female.

In a statement to people, a spokesman for Walmart said: “Violence like this is unacceptable. Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we are grateful for the rapid measures from the first respondents. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement during their investigation.”

GTO also expressed sympathy and says, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.”

GTO did not immediately respond to people’s request for comment on July 26.
